Whitehall Lane

St. Helena, California

This project involved the design of a new 5000 SF custom home with a detached 1200 sf guesthouse and pool on a six acre sloping site with expansive views of the Napa Valley. The steeply graded site creates a wooded backdrop for the residence and surrounding gardens. The main house is positioned to capture panaramic views of the Napa Valley hills and vineyards to the east. An enclosed courtyard of ornamental cherry trees on the west side of the house provides a more intimate exterior space. On the interior, wide plank walnut floors and off-white walls provide a warm, modern aesthetic. On the exterior, horizontal cedar siding, warm gray stone and integral colored concrete combine to create a pallette that is both rural and modern. Expansive gardens of fruit trees, flowers and a small vineyard surround the structures on all sides, providing color and texture throughout the year. This project was completed in June 2010.
