This project involved an extensive interior and exterior remodel of an existing 1600 SF, three-level, A-frame beach house in the small, coastal community of Muir Beach. While situated with breathtaking views of Muir Beach Cove, the interior was dark, confined and outdated. The first design objective was to enclose the open lower level to expand the square footage and create a private guest suite. Floor to ceiling windows were utilized to capture the breathtaking ocean views, while also accentuating the deeply pitched roofline and introduce natural light. A new, compact, circular, steel stairway connects the upper master suite, main level living, kitchen and dining to the guest suite below. A large wood deck with hot tub and frameless glass railing provides unobstructed ocean views and extends the living space to the exterior. Original, exposed wood framing and ceilings were refinished and are complemented with new walnut floors. The exterior is clear cedar, painted black. All landscaping is drought-tolerant and low maintenance. This project was completed in 2015.
