Albariño Restaurant

Tapas | Wine Bar

Shrewsbury, New Jersey

This project involved the complete interior renovation of a vintage commercial space, previously not used for restaurant service. Existing

concrete floors and twelve foot high pine ceilings with raw steel beams were refinished to create a rustic backdrop, reminiscent of a Galician coastal taverna. Greens and blues suggest vineyards and sea, while smoked glass light fixtures, dark walnut millwork and custom-designed bronze bar fixtures, are both modern and rustic. A multi-colored, nine pendant glass chandelier is suspended from the twenty-one foot high ceiling over the Communal Dining area, adjacent to the Main Bar. Walnut dining and bar chairs, as well as banquette seating, are custom upholstered in dark blue denim to further enhance the vintage modern atmosphere. At the back of the Main Dining Room, a wall-sized, vintage Portolan trade map, bordered by the coasts of New Jersey and Galicia, gives diners a visual sense of where the coastal, Spanish-inspired and locally sourced menu is derived. A Wine Retail area, located near the front entrance, offers bottles for purchase and provides an intimate private table for a group of eight. Heated outdoor Patio Dining with a retractable awning system is open from early Spring to late Fall. This project was completed in September 2017.
