Buchanan Street

San Francisco, California

This project involved a major remodel of an existing 2000 SF flat in Pacific Heights. The project was designed with two primary objectives; the first was to create a modern interior by incorporating a palette of natural materials with clean, minimal detailing while maintaining a strong dialogue with the scale and proportions of the existing Victorian structure. The second was to create a forum for the display of the owners' extensive art collection. The interior was designed to work seamlessly with artworks ranging from second century B.C. Pre-columbian artifacts, to old, modern and contemporary master paintings and drawings. This project can be summarized as a dialogue between old and new. While the design is modern, it embodies a subtlety that allows the art to exist within an atmosphere that is timeless. This project was completed in 2002.
